While I think it was great Clinton took the time out of his busy schedule (what does he do these days, anyway?), I don't feel the American citizens should foot the bill for the reporters. Why not let the publication company they work for reimburse us? It's not like they were serving our country while they were there.

Pardon me for being a little bitter about excessive governmental spending. I already give them more than a third of my salary, not to mention that this will likely go higher to pay for the "stimulus" (a.k.a. Payback plan) passed in February.
Do you remember the SURPLUS we had under Clinton and do you remember what BUSH did with it and left Obama with a RECORD budget deficit!?!
Not only that, Bush's wanton, reckless spending behavior set an example for the entire country which led us into our current economic situation.
And NOBODY, neither Republicans nor Democrats, knows how to get out of this unprecedented situation. So, unless you have something worthwhile to offer, go pester someone else.
TO ANON- while I love making money and spending money- If I feel that my tax dollars are going towards something reasonable like helping people get JOBS or HEALTHCARE or FOOD or SAFE ROADS. I am more than happy to give it to the government because everytime I give something away, it comes back to me ten fold.
And what rock do you live under where you think that "American citizens foot the bill for reporters"? Reporters are covered under the Geneva Convention and have a special status- read about it.
Although, I am sure you had no problem risking troops' lives to save those inane missionary girls from Waco, Texas who went to Iraq to preach the gospel.
Clinton did a wonderful thing. He and Al Gore are kind, caring human beings. I watched/heard Ms. Ling at the news conference describe what it was like for her to walk into the room and see Bill Clinton standing there and know their nightmare was over. She brought tears to my eyes that spilled over when she was shown reuniting with her adorable daughter.
I wasn't so impressed with Bill Clinton's wife's reaction to what he did and was disappointed.

I'm relieved that Korean Elvis thinks so highly of Bill that only Bubba would do for the mission of getting them released and that Clinton stepped up to the plate and did it. I giggled at the thought that even though they are his employees (kind of), Gore got upstaged again by the Big Dog. Poor Al, even after inventing the internets and being Champion of the Entire Planet, he still has to carry Bill's water.
However, I don't love Bill so I say "otherwise". I still harbor the ick from both Monica and his antics during the campaign.

Obviously 'hello', you do not read the paper. If you thought about the backlash in deficits that occured during Bush's term, it was thanks to all the changes Clinton approved/backed while in office. Everything that is started in DC cannot be implemented immediately. Therefore it's a few years before we reap the benefits or disasters of their actions. Go ahead and find 1 change or idea that was signed and we immediately saw the benefits the next day. There is none. DC doesn't work that way. So you can try and blame Bush with Clinton's problems, but in reality, most of the good things that happened during Clinton's term were thanks to the politicians who signed things before he even started office, and were just then starting to reap the benefits. It works that way with all politicians - whether good or bad.
