Ow, My Eyes!

Please click on photos for full effect.

Is this a joke or is Domino trying to make its departure easier on us? Behold, the home of Nina Campbell. No further comment.

So as not to leave my beloved Domino on a sour note, a couple of rooms I like (minus the deer noggin):

I love the painted paneling and the sofa cushion. The homeowner shoved together two parts of a sectional and had a new cushion made. That handrolled mattress cushion has long been a favorite of mine. I wonder if the edge is uncomfortable?

Every home with kids should have a teepee. Yep, in the dining room, family room, wherever. I'd like to point out that I do not like the Noguchi light fixture - it looks like commercial HVAC ductwork.

Thoughts on the final issue or is it taboo to speak ill of the dead?

Domino is Dead.

Read about it here.

I have been worried about it since early October in my post here.

I liked it because it was different than Vogue Living or Elle Decor or House Beautiful. It was young and had a fresh point of view.

I love the Domino Book of Decorating and am glad I've saved every issue of the magazine. I found something of inspiration in every issue.

Here are a few of my favorite images (from today, actually):

I have been obsessing this week over the yellow wallpaper and green doors. Love the contrast.

Jenna Lyons' living room.

Allison Sarofim's bath. Next time I redo a bath, it's going to look like this.

Sara Ruffin Costello's kitchen.

I left out the rest of the Jenna Lyons photos that I loved from November. But you can visit them here if you need to.

So long, Domino. It was nice knowing you.

Domino Giveaway.

I was lamenting yesterday morning that I hadn't received the February issue of Domino yet (which is why I rarely subscribe to magazines anymore!) and my husband, who is attempting a husband-of-the-year award, saw it at Borders and picked it up for me. I had no idea that he understood my magazine obsession.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear in today's mail but the very February issue of Domino magazine.

So, I have an extra. If you'd like (I know, it's like the lottery, isn't it?!), leave a comment and I'll pick one of you tonight and mail it out tomorrow. You're likely to receive it from me more quickly than from Domino anyway.

And you'll have an extra $5 burning a hole in your pocket to buy, um, half a subscription to Domino.

The Domino Fairy Came...

Okay, so we've been having some trouble getting Domino in upper and lower Delaware which you may remember from this post. The October issue arrived well into November but November came compliments of the lovely and talented Habitually Chic! Habitually Chic may have a few lying around because she is also mentioned in the Nov. issue. Thank you H. C. for pitying me and my Dominolessness. And congrats on the mention!

Everybody has already posted on it, but I must profess my love for Jenna Lyons' house. The rooms read black but are really deep navy. I covet them. I will only bore you with a photo of one of the rooms since you've already seen them:

I will bore visually reiterate for you these two photos from another house, also from the same issue, with black walls. Love.

I first saw black used in an appealing way in an 80s home decorating book from Home Depot and, more recently(about 5 years ago) from the book, Bachelor Style. Here's the pad that got me thinking about black, the Paris Apartment of Jean-Pierre Calvagrac.

That sleigh bed is just dreamy. And I love the mix of burled woods and (let's say) faux furs against the darkness. Then today, while visiting the site of Hollister Hovey, I find more black beauty in the apartment she shares with her sister, Porter (of Porter Polaroid Project). Hollister calls their style a hybrid between Royal Tenenbaums and Charlie Rose. Ha.

So gorgeous and the coolest blogs. For the record, I have subscribed to Domino to avoid further delivery mishaps. Even though I'm not sure they'll still be around in 6 months... Hope I'm wrong.

Where Are You, My Little Domino?

Others have had you for weeks. I and all the bookstores in Delaware (okay, all in Wilmington and Browseabout in Rehoboth) are still slumming with the September issue.

Does anybody know what's going on? Does Domino have a beef with Joe Biden? Or vice-versa?

I don't subscribe to magazines because it drives me insane when I go to the bookstore and the new issue of something I subscribe to is in the bookstore before I get it. I prefer paying five times the subscription price (not really, but it's the price I pay, so to speak). And the mail reminders to send in my money for the next 12 months five minutes after I subscribed? Well, I'll admit it - I get too many. I can't keep track of what I've paid for.

So. Did everybody else in the country receive their October Domino Mag? Incidentally, Barnes & Noble said they will no longer be carrying Domino. *Sad face.* I hope another one isn't biting the dust...
