Wood is Good, II: Dreamboats.

1957 Chris-Craft Capri

Chris-Craft 1941 Capri "Dame."

Chris-Craft 1942 Runabout

Chris-Craft Barrelback

Pretty wooden boats all in a row (not all of these are Chris-Craft).

Lacquered wood and polished nickel trays from Williams-Sonoma Home.

Can you think of a better way to spend a summer day than lazin' around on the lake in one of these vintage Chris-Craft boats? They're like the floating, speedster versions of the Woody (with price tags to almost match). And they do require some extra pampering (as most beautiful things do :-) but I'd say they're worth it.

Unfortunately, the water at the beach is either too salty or too brackish for these beauties but my husband grew up sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and the northern waters of the Chesapeake, as I understand, might be just right.

At the very least, I can get those trays for my living room and put a sweating cocktail on them and dream of my vintage Chris-Craft.

I know nothing about these vessels except to say that they are gorgeous.

What beautiful pictures. It makes me want to go out on one to experience it.

Thanks for sharing these!

Ok I totally agree, these are my favorite kind of boats!
I would love one and I do not really go to the lake!

So beautiful! Like James Bond in Martha's Vineyard. It's something about the glossy shellac that pulls me in.

A friend of mine once restored an old wooden boat, and the ChrisCrafts were his inspiration.

I have been lusting after those WSH trays (both the wood and glass versions) since I first saw them.

Our extended family had a house on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire and there were a couple of these near us.

Have you ever seen Trumpy yachts? They were wooden boats made in Annapolis.

It's been a long held dream of mine to own a vintage Chris Craft. They are gorgeous! Thanks for the reminder that I have to get working on this or at least meet someone who has one.

I've heard that the best days in a boat owner's life are the day she buys the boat, and the day she sells it -- but that's not stopping me from lusting after these babies!

everyone thinks these boats are a pain to take care of. The secret is to take care of them a little each year, and after owning one for several years you can actually make money when you sell it. We do a bog on such things at woodyboater.com there are also a ton of links if you are interested in finding out were you can get one...two... dont laugh... the average owner owns more than one... Great story. Great blog.

Wow.
I love wooden boats as well. These are so well kept! I have had one so I know the amount of time one need to put into it. (And money).
My argument is that wooden boat owners love their boats more - and that's what makes them so precious.
These ones were real jems, thank you for sharing!
