Happy Mad Men Season 4 Day!

I've come out of my self-imposed exile to celebrate the Season 4 premiere of Mad Men. I know you're as excited as I am. Here's what I've been doing instead of blogging:

Okay, not sailing so much as cleaning the brightwork while she is docked.

Hanging out at the beach with my boyfriend, James Bond:

Making my dishes sparkling clean while smelling like a garden using this:

geranium

Having an Apple a day:

Day One

Day Two

Attending my hairdresser's drag show at the Purple Parrot:

Oh, hell yes, she is fine...

Occasionally working at my friend's store so I can be surrounded by beautiful!! things:

Deanna Wish Designs

Contemplating life's big questions:

1) Who the hell is Joy Bryant anyway and why should I care?

2) What is wrong with people who back into parking spaces?

3) Vinegar or ketchup? (Vinegar, definitely.)

3) Why is The Big Lebowski funny? Or John Goodman in general?

4) Does anybody really know what time it is; does anybody really care?

But mostly, I have been wildly anticipating Don Draper and the gang coming back into my life.

Hope you're having a fab summer. xo

My Favorite Headline Ever.

Mayans: World won't end in 2012, so stop asking us about it

I really think there should be a "goddammit" at the end of it. Thank you Mark Stevenson from the AP (and/or his editor). Click here for the story.

This Housing Crisis Is for the Birds.

I saw this birdhouse/dovecote at Farmer Girl in Rehoboth Beach and fell in love with it. You cannot tell by the photo that it is 6 feet tall.

You also cannot tell that it costs $2999 at Farmer Girl. $2999!! for a bird house. However, I did find it here for only $1895. $1895 for a birdhouse!! Proving that beach prices are still out of whack with the rest of the market.

I think I'll wait until it goes into foreclosure. . .

Have a great weekend!

Sunday Night Confession.

I was a latchkey kid.

In third grade, I would walk my little brother home and watch him until my mom got home from work.

Somehow, I started watching Dark Shadows. It scared the bejesus out of me but I was too fascinated by the vampires and ghosts not to watch. What with Barnabas Collins and the ghost who would appear after the scent of lilacs filled the room? I would wake up in the middle of the night convinced that I smelled lilacs and wait, terrified, for the ghost to appear in my bedroom.

So I used to watch the show while standing by the front door with one hand on the screen door handle (the front door was already open) so I could run out of the house in case anything paranormal appeared in my living room.

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Dark Shadows was a gothic soap opera with ghosts and all manner of supernatural goings on and a cast of ultra-creepy characters. It aired from the mid-60s to the early 70s. I just read that Johnny Depp was so obsessed with Barnabas Collins that he wanted to be Barnabas Collins. It looks like he's getting his wish: the show is being made into a movie starring Johnny Depp, directed by Tim Burton.

Yikes. I'll be the one under the covers.

After months of being assaulted with red, white and blue, I'm feeling the need to cleanse my palette with white...
