I Owe Gwyneth Paltrow An Apology.
When I first heard of GOOP, her blog, I was like, right. You're going to give me all your wisdom and sage advice on life now that you've given birth and won an Oscar and married a rock star, all while chewing on that silver spoon? Give me a break.
So I signed up for the newsletter because, really, how was I going to make fun of her if I didn't have some actual anecdotal evidence to provide the laughs? The problem is that I like her blog. And her recipes. And her recommendations for under-the-radar places to stay and to eat (fabulous if not overpriced for the average rabble) in the U.S. and abroad. However, I can honestly say she works out too much. Ha.
For instance, I want to make everything in her recent newsletter: grilled zucchini and bruschetta; slow-cooked tomatoes with fresh mozzarella... I mean, how good do those artichokes look? And I want to have lunch at Le Voltaire in Paris and eat avocado and grapefruit salad (one of my faves). I am not a vegetarian ( I was for years) but I eat mostly veggie food because that is what I love. (And while ice cream isn't vegan, it's totally vegetarian.)
Anyway, if you're interested for blog fodder or just interested, visit GOOP here.

You're right. It does seem likes she's done a good job. I skimmed through it and there's definitely stuff I'm going to go back and read though in more depth.
These recipes do look good! Love the smell of oven roasted tomatoes.
Originally my thoughts re: GOOP were the same as yours. However I must admit I was wrong. It is a great blog with content well worth reading. Thanks for the tip!
have you ever seen her show on PBS? i get hooked into watching it every time i come across it. (it's a show of her driving around the countryside in Spain and tasting local foods.) the scenery is gorgeous and the chefs and gardeners/farmers she talks with are fantastic!
Yes, I remember seeing the one in Spain - or at least come of it - with Mario Battali and she called him "Battals" and I was thinking that's what I'd call him. She seemed down to earth although that doesn't always come across in writing.
But GOOP? Seriously.
I wonder why she named it Goop? It sounds kinda gross.
I feel the same way, I scoffed it at first, but in the end I kind of like it.
I subscribed to this in the beginning but had to drop it after one too many Gwynethisms. I can't even remember what bit of ridiculousness prompted me to do so. There have been so many.
Raina: I was going to add a public apology to you at the bottom of this post.
:-)
I guess I should say that I don't really read it, just go straight for the pictures, basically.
Crap. Now I have to read it and make sure I'm not going to regret this post.
I have been a subscriber to her blog for a few months now! I love the one she recently posted about gossiping. . . it was enlightening! And her current post this week on the recipes certainly looked yummy as well!
I've never read her blog (GOOP -- wtf?), and I don't understand how to eat artichokes unless they're the little picked hearts you buy at the store.
However, I've never really understood why people hate her so much. She's a lucky girl who leads a nice life, and she's a far cry classier than the current crop of pop tarlets. Maybe I need to head over to check out her Gwynethisms...
I just subscribed (I didn't even know about it...lame?). I'm curious if she actually writes it or if she has a staff? Thanks for the link!
me too! ... i've come around to loving goop.
plus, gwyneth, through goop, has inspired me to start telling people what to do ; )
I found GOOP a while a go and have enjoyed reading it as well! Who knew?!
Oh I find this very disappointing. Very disappointing, indeed! Have I read GOOP? no. I'm afraid I may go to the dark side, as clearly you have.
Haha!! Leslie! I cannot believe you are the only one giving me grief over this post. I know that Raina was holding back...
The dark side, indeed.
:-)
What a brave post! I will read GOOP second-hand via other blogs, and I secretly enjoy it. Don't tell anyone.
I like this post. It's unpredictable. Raina's comment is wholly predictable. I don't like Gwyneth either, but I'm more interested in hearing from people who came to have an unpopular opinion, than hear my own validated endlessly throughout Blogville.
gOOp is gOOP, shame on those player-haters
HG, you need to read this. You weee yourself laughing:
