Paint It Black.

The Rolling Stones told me to Paint It Black.

So I did.

Quite a few of you also suggested I paint my bathroom black. Remember? Click here for a reminder and the Before photo.

Actually, I used chalkboard paint on the walls (if it's good enough for Jenna Lyons...) and glossy black on the tub. The chalkboard paint is not quite flat and not quite glossy and it reads somewhere between black and the deepest blue.

I tried black feet but it looked blah and I was going to replace all the towel bars, etc., with polished nickel or chrome but we're in a Depression people so I decided to go with the brass since that's what I have (except the lights go either way - I just haven't found anything I like yet). Fresh new white towels are on order from Restoration Hardware (I went here and got 10% off my order which also reduced my shipping - yay for discounts!).

So I think I'm in the market for a gold/gilt mirror (which is why my daughter's 1st grade artwork is on the floor - for frame color reference) - that is, unless I can have chrome lights and mirror and everything else brass? Light ideas? I love this combo - she mixes chrome and gold and more; more of a beach look but you get the idea. Opinions?

Brilliant job! I am so glad you kept the window.

I wouldn't mix the metals. There's a lot going on in your room already (I don't mean that in a bad way); the stained glass already brings a lot of different colors to the party.

I absolutely love the black. Excellent move.

ROCK ON, girlfriend! The black looks smashing.

How does blackboard paint hold up in a high-humidity environment like a bathroom?

I love the black tub; that room's transformed. Brava!

I'm back for more comments. ;)

- How many coats did you paint?

- Keep it all brass. It looks warm and lovely.

- Maybe you could spritz you shiny brass bits with saltwater (a la Jenna) to get an antiqued look.

- Did I mention I love this bath?

looks terrific! good on you for going for it!

and i'll give you a vote for mixing metals- i do it all the time, and i think it produces a lovely, random "oh, this room just grew organically over time" feel. may i suggest getting vintage lighting, something with modern look to contrast with all the victoriana, but some wear and age, so it doesn't look brand new- like maybe chrome fixtures, but with a bit of pitting. i think a couple vintage modern/deco looking chrome/brass fixtures on either side of a gilt baroque mirror would look smashing in the room. or conversely, a pair of gilt baroque sconces on either side of the current mirror...

and your kid's first grade art is spectacular! there is some talent goin' on there!

So great. Love it!!!!

Luscious. The only thing that I would change still are the shades on the sconces. As Maison suggests, perhaps something a bit more baroque?

m21: I love your ideas.

And my girl? Graduating this year and headed to art school... :-) with a scholarship!! Yay for college $$!

Anon: I don't know how it will hold up. It's not a bathroom that's used very often.

Raina: It's really one coat with touch ups. I painted it with a brush because I wasn't sure how a roller would work with chalkboard paint.

I should try spritzing.

Thanks everyone else for comments. My bathroom feels vulnerable being up there all naked for y'all.

Oh, yeah, the window still needs fixin'. But then I'll have plywood until it's fixed, so...

Love the black. Can't wait to see what you choose for lighting. (You're changing those, right? New sconces might be the cheapest option.)

Unless the mixed metals bothers you, why not stick with what you have until an inexpensive but good looking solution presents itself.

Love what you have done. The black is a beautiful backdrop for the window. Mixed metals is a great look. Matchy-matchy is for the fearful. And congrats on the artist daughter. Aren't great genes a wonderful thing?

LOVE THE BLACK! It looks SO high-end.

My guess is that the chalkboard paint will hold up fine in a bathrooms as I've often used damp cloths to wipe down chalkboards with no issues.

BTW the artwork your daughter did in first grade is incredible. Wowzers.

i am liking the black paint - in fact, i've been drawn to that for a while now. the contrast with the white appliances and white trim is very chic and clean.

Wonderful! So glad you shared this as I am in the middle of painting my bathroom a dark gray and love some more inspiration.

I debated black and I think I maybe should have gone there after seeing your space.

Very cool vibe happening in that slimming bathroom of yours. Yep.

AWESOME! I was a bit worried about the black tub, but my fears were for naught.

Love the brass fixtures you already have, so tired of chrome blah blah (even though that's what I have). New lights/mirror are a must - Maison 21's ideas are great.

Fantastic job!
