Oh my God I just laughed out loud. No kidding. Pah-Kee-Staaan. Go figure. Maybe the press should start calling him Baaaa-Raaaack.

I'm guessing I missed something.

You did. You had to watch the president's press conference tonight. He pronounces Pakistan (I say Pack-i-stan) "Pahk-i-stahn." He did it throughout the campaign, too. But I figured he's brilliant so if he's still pronouncing it that way, that must be how it's pronounced.

Missy, you get a gold star! (I wasn't sure anyone would get it.) :-) You've made me verreee hahppeeee.

Slightly off topic - I love how the British pronounce his first name "BEAR-ick."

this is funny. he got some heat during the election for actually pronouncing it the RIGHT way. Nice to have a worldly intellectual as prez, a nice change!

Funny, HG. I agree, he must be right. I'm practicing now...

Oh, and I have to tell you - that was the first presidential press conference I've ever watched. All the way through. Without doing several other things at the same time. Without throwing shoes at the TV.

Isn't it SO nice to have a president who can answer questions from the press in an intelligent, thoughtful manner?! It was a very, very long eight years.

Oh, boy, you said a mouthful, sister.

Raina - That sounds like the NZ way to say it. I can hear Murray now. Ha.

Decorina - I'm proud of you and I totally understand.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD! Some friends and I were talking about this exact pronunciation just last night. Drunk.

I missed the press conference, but the news is all up his ass today for stumbling around. Just partisan criticism or not? I expect nothing less than perfection from my brilliant baby Barack (which is why I've been practicing my Pahkeestaan pronunciation for a while now).

This reminds me of how I cringe when people say "EYE-ran" instead of "Eee-rahn" when they're talking about Iran.

Shit. Note to self: Start pronouncing it ee-rahn.

Just kidding. I learned how to pronounce it from Christiane Amanpour on Stephen Colbert.

In my defense, I only pronounced it Ih-rahn.

Also, while we're at it: Mos-Koh. Not Mos-COW.

Thankyouverymuch.

He says it more like Pocky-Ston. The correct pronunciation is PAH-kih-stahn, he is close, but not quite there.

Guess it's just me, but I am starting to see an Obama who is NOT the man I (thought I)voted for. I didn't sleep well last night.
